You can ask someone to act as your representative to help with your application. This could be a friend, partner or relative or it could be someone you pay, like a solicitor. However, you do not need to get any paid help.
You need to tell us if someone is acting as your representative. You can either do this at the application stage, or by completing a form later on.
Where else can I get free help?
You can get free confidential support and advice from Victim Support (England and Wales) / Victim Support (Scotland) and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Here are some other organisations that may be able to offer free help and support:
Rape Crisis
Rape Crisis Scotland
Womens Aid
Scottish Womens Aid
Legal or paid advice
If you decide to get paid representation (for example, from a solicitor) to help with your application, we cannot pay the costs of this.
Claims Management Regulator
The Claims Management Regulator is part of the Ministry of Justice and their website has a search function to check if a claims management company is authorised by them.
